The inconsistency is this: Mr Bludsmith said he pushed open the door when entering the house. Yet Ken, when approaching from outside, said the door was pushed in his face by Dr Silver.

If Mr Bludsmith had entered the way he said he had, then he would have known that the door opened outwards, and since he didn’t it was clear that his story was false.
